About

Spur Change is Cal Poly's official crowdfunding platform, supporting student-driven projects that enhance the Learn by Doing experience.

Funded by generous donors and student supporters, Spur Change crowdfunding projects are typically 30-day campaigns running in Fall and Spring through Cal Poly's Annual Giving department. Each student group is coached through their project launch, funding and stewardship process, helping students reach their project goals and allowing them the opportunity to experience the value of giving and philanthropy first-hand.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo FAQ

What is Crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a Cal Poly-specific fundraising platform similar to Kickstarter. Our fundraising platform, called Spur Change, gives student and faculty-affiliated groups on campus the opportunity to raise money for various expenses within their respective organizations. This can range from travel expenses, to department needs, funds allocated to an event, etc. The basis of reaching a fundraising goal is simple: (A Lot of People) x (A Little Bit of Money) = The Power of Spur Change.

If your campaign was not selected for Fall 2018 and you are interested in raising money for your organization earlier than Spring quarter, we are also looking for Social Media Brand Ambassadors for Poly Gives. And even though you will be an ambassador for Poly Gives itself, you can also use your social media presence to encourage your friends and followers to donate specifically to YOUR organization on the day of the event.
