Help Mock Trial Travel to Tournaments Across the Nation
Description
Cal Poly Mock Trial is a competitive Mock Trial club, which is an extra-curricular activity in which students take on the role of attorneys and witnesses in fabricated courtroom trials. Thousands of college students across the United States participate in American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) tournaments which involve legal research, public speaking, debating and writing skills, as well as critical thinking, teamwork and leadership abilities.
University clubs host tournaments, each having somewhere between 18 to 40 teams, where schools compete in four separate three-hour rounds. Students represent the Prosecution/Plaintiff and defense sides of a case, simulating a real-life trial in which they are scored on performance. Cal Poly Mock Trial mainly competes on the West Coast but frequently is invited to high-caliber Mock Trial tournaments around the country, including Harvard, University of Florida, and Boston College. There, students work as teams to take home awards for their university, all the while striving to be recognized individually as outstanding attorneys and witnesses.
Having existed for years, Cal Poly Mock Trial has been nationally recognized as a serious competitor. Every few years, we send one of our teams to the National Tournament, where some of our alumni have even won outstanding All-American awards. Apart from these competitions, our members have consistently been ranked as the best attorneys and witnesses at several other tournaments.
Your gift will allow Cal Poly Mock Trial to travel to the necessary tournaments in the competitive AMTA circuit and bring back more and more awards. We have 40 members split into four different teams, and we would love to see them all compete at the highest possible level.
