Send the First Ever Cal Poly Students to the NWSA Conference!
The National Women’s Studies Association (NWSA) Annual Conference is the premier event for students and faculty in Women’s & Gender Studies and Queer Studies. But no Cal Poly undergraduate has ever attended. For the last 6 years (since 2012), the NWSA Annual Conference has occurred on the East Coast or in Canada – putting our dream of sending a Cal Poly student cohort to NWSA completely out of reach.
Until this year! The 2019 NWSA Annual Conference is happening in San Francisco Nov 14-17, 2019. The theme for this year’s NWSA Annual Conference is “Protest, Justice, and Transnational Organizing.” Your support will create an opportunity for Cal Poly students be a part of and contribute to this historic event for the first time!
What does the opportunity to participate in the NWSA Annual Conference mean for Cal Poly students? Participation will provide opportunities to connect with and learn from leading and emerging scholar-activists in the fields of Women’s & Gender Studies and Queer Studies. We know this experience will be TRANSFORMATIVE for our students, shaping their individual graduate school, personal, and professional paths. After the conference, student attendees will share what they learned with the broader Cal Poly community, expanding the impact.
Sending a Cal Poly student cohort to NWSA will also grow the visibility of Cal Poly as a site for cutting edge scholarship and practice in Women’s & Gender Studies and Queer Studies – improving our ability to collaborate with departments and programs in California and across the country, and making students and graduates from our programs more competitive for graduate school admission, as well as fellowships, awards, internships, and job opportunities.
We need to raise $730 per student to make this dream a reality. Our big dream goal is to raise at least $7,300 to send a cohort of 10 Cal Poly students to the NWSA Annual Conference. We have confirmed interest for a much bigger cohort. Please help us send 10 or more of our amazing students to this premier event! We cannot do it without you!
