Help Cal Poly Disc Golf Construct a New Course (May 2019)

Cal Poly Disc Golf Club is an ASI recognized club that provides members the opportunity to play disc golf within a community of Cal Poly students. One of the goals of Cal Poly's Disc Golf Club is to make disc golf in San Luis Obispo more accessible, giving all ages and skill levels the opportunity to play. The two existing courses in town are both 4 miles away from campus and are not beginner friendly. A course on campus will give freshmen and students without access to transportation the ability to play Disc Golf. Disc Golf is a fun, free activity that can be played until a very old age. We want to build a stronger community of disc golfers at Cal Poly to give graduates and faculty the passion to play disc golf for a life time.

Since its inception, Disc Golf Club has dedicated itself to bringing a course to Cal Poly's campus. There is community passion for our mission too! The Disc Golf Club has already raised $2,500 toward the course and we are asking you to help us reach our goal of $7,500 to build a 9-hole course in Poly Canyon on the south side of Poly Canyon's Design Village.

The Poly Canyon Disc Golf Course will give students, faculty, community members, and visitors access to a fun and free activity that promotes the outdoors, hiking, and exercise. The 9-hole course will be beginner friendly and accessible to all skill levels.

Course Logistics

Disc Golf Club has designed a 9-hole course near the architecture structures with intentions developing an additional 18-hole loop. The 9-hole loop ascends and descends the hillside featuring lots of elevation change and a triple mandatory hole. Future architecture projects might make the course more challenging. No current architectural structures will be incorporated into the design.

Future Expansion

But we don't want to just stop there! Our club plans to expand our initial course by developing an 18-hole course that will be created by adding 14 new holes and sharing 4 holes of the initial 9 hole course. The 18-hole loop will travel around the top part of the canyon completely circling the perimeter of Poly Canyon Design Village.

Tee signs will be made with a detailed visual of the given hole. A main course map will also be made. Each hole consists of a disc golf basket, a tee pad, and a tee sign.
