Thank You!
This campaign has concluded and is in update mode, but you can still make a gift to the Imagen Y Espiritu Ballet Folklorico De Cal Poly by going here.
Imagen Y Espíritu Ballet Folklórico de Cal Poly was founded in 1990 by a group of students determined to secure, promote, and preserve the Mexican culture. The purpose of the group was, and still is, to teach artistic and leadership skills that will enhance the participants' ability to perform regional dances and allow them to inspire a positive attitude towards Mexican culture and ancestry through dance. The club participates in various Cal Poly events as well as local community events. On campus, the club has performed for Cal Poly Green & Gold, Open House, Chicanx Latinx Commencement, PolyCultural Weekend, Parent Weekend, and at various Cross-Cultural Centers events.
The club also performs for local schools and at community events.
This year's group is 25 students strong. The club members come from majors representing every college in the university. Many students are first-time dancers who are looking for ways to connect with other students and celebrate their rich cultural heritage. Many are also participants in the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) on campus. This funding would provide the members with their shoes and practice skirts (for the women), and also allow us to purchase costumes from one or more regions, such as Veracruz. Imagen y Espíritu is a non-profit 501(c) group and relies heavily on fundraising and donations in order to keep our group functioning.
