The Cal Poly Food Science Club is an academic club dedicated to supporting food science students, or any student with an interest in food develop professional and technical skills for their future careers. Our club is officially recognized by the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), which is the largest global community of anyone working in the science of food. We encourage our club members to join internet-based Divisions and connecting with industry professionals that pertain to their food science interest. Our group makes active efforts to interact with peers and universities of our geographically-based section, the Pacific Southwest. Many of the universities in Southern California that offer food science host in-person food expositions and area meetings to enhance the academic experience outside of the classroom and lab. In order to travel and attend these events, students need support for travel. Overall, becoming involved with the IFT organization provides access to extensive amounts of research opportunities, learning resources, networking opportunities, and events created to become an informed food professional and contributor.
That being said, professional development is important to our club. Members participate in global conference meetings, enter challenging product development and quiz bowl competitions, undergraduate and graduate research project competitions, and volunteer at area meetings. With the variety of programs and services of IFT, the Cal Poly Food Science Club wants to play a vital role in helping our members gain access to a wealth of scientific knowledge and industry expertise. Helping our club members gain exposure to the food industry through travel will enhance our resumes and professional network for our careers to come. Currently, the Cal Poly Food Science Club has approximately 50 to 70 active members every year. We carry on events that range from community service, professional mixers, and social events with other organizations in the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences with the purpose of supporting our students.
Your donation of $10 will provide one meal for a Food Science Club member when we attend professional conferences!
Your generous donation of $50 helps one FSN Club member attend a professional conference such as SCIFTs and the Fancy Food Show.
Your generous donation of $100 helps two FSN Club members attend a professional conference.
