The Black Student Union (BSU) at California Polytechnic State University intends to enhance the lives of black students and the student body as a whole. We achieve this through education of the black conscience and the cultivation and promotion of black culture on campus and in the San Luis Obispo community. We cultivate and maintain unity among black students on campus, generate and promote cultural awareness and pride, advocate academic success and assist black students in their educational goals, institute and sustain political activism to improve the racial climate on our campus, foster strong relationships between the black faculty and staff and build coalitions with other cultural clubs and organizations, and develop and continue a connection with the black community of San Luis Obispo County by working with on- and off-campus organizations such as the Black Academic Excellence Center (BAEC), Cal Poly's Black Alumni Chapter, and San Luis Obispo's NAACP.
A gift to Cal Poly's Black Student Union not only empowers us to carry out our aforementioned mission but provides us with the opportunity to expand that scope of what our organization is able to do. Donations would empower us to put on more events -- both virtual and in person -- that any and all Cal Poly students are invited to attend, allowing us to spread our message of unity and community to a wider audience and more consistently. In addition, your generous gift to the BSU will enable us to disseminate more educational materials to our members, further promoting their cultural awareness and pride. Help BSU continue to cultivate Black cultural pride on Cal Poly's campus!
