#IAmAware Because of Carson

Through Aware Awake Alive campaigns and programs, WITH US works to increase public awareness about the signs of alcohol poisoning, the dangers of binge drinking and hazing, and the role each of us can play in saving lives by simply stepping up to help one another.

Carson was among friends when he died from an alcohol overdose. Their unchecked hazing traditions, lack of awareness, and pervasive bystander apathy led to his preventable death. Had his peers been educated and trained to help when it mattered most, Carson could still be with us today.

These all too familiar tragedies continue to plague our campus communities. In the last month alone, we’ve lost two young people, Adam Oakes and Stone Foltz, to circumstances that are strikingly similar to what Carson experienced. The families are changed forever, and we must do more to educate and raise public awareness to end this horrific trend!

Students witness alcohol misuse and hazing and are often lack the knowledge to assess the situation as a problem and/or lack the skills and confidence intervene to help. WITH US was founded to prepare young people for these moments - to inspire bystanders to be UPSTANDERS that take action to intervene and help others in need.

Aware Awake Alive Week April 11-17

Throughout Aware Awake Alive Week, and year round, our goal is for students everywhere to confidently say:

#IAmAware of the effects of alcohol on the body at various BAC levels.

#IAmAware of my own limits and how to drink responsibly if I choose to.

#IAmAware of the dangers of hazing and why I can’t be silent about it.

#IAmAware of the signs of alcohol poisoning and when I MUST HELP.

#IAmAware of the amnesty laws that protect me when I make the call.

#IAmAware that my decision to help could save someone’s life.

Join us during Aware Awake Alive Week and throughout the month of April to help us expand the reach and impact of these important lessons.

Here’s how:

• Share Carson’s Story and the stories of others we’ve lost to hazing and alcohol poisoning.
• Take the Upstander Pledge and commit to being someone others can count on when it matters most.
• Use our materials to facilitate a discussion with your peers and start to shift the culture in your communities.
• Support the movement with a gift and help us continue our important work to educate and save lives.
