At Mustangs for Recovery, we honor recovery as a journey, not a destination. As a program of Campus Health & Wellbeing, we exist to offer a safe and sober-friendly environment for students in recovery, seeking recovery, or those affected by the addiction of a friend or family member. Our purpose is to offer alternatives, support, community, and events geared toward students in recovery. We offer meetings based in both abstinence-only and harm-reduction models.
The program was founded by Davis Henegar prior to his graduation from Cal Poly. Davis fought tirelessly to reduce the stigma associated with substance misuse and aimed to offer a space for all students to seek and find recovery support. Davis was in recovery for substance addiction and later returned to Cal Poly with the dream of building an inclusive and safe community for Cal Poly students who shared a similar story. Davis passed away far too soon but his legacy lives on through this wonderful program.
Mustangs for Recovery set the precedent and continues to lead by example as the first collegiate substance recovery program across the entire CSU. Participation is growing each quarter as more students become aware of the resource.
Our goal of $25,000 would cover the operating costs of Mustangs for Recovery for an entire year. Meeting our fundraising goal would allow our team to focus all of our efforts on supporting students on their recovery journey, instead of worrying about funding. All donations, no matter the amount, are greatly appreciated!
