Cantabile, one of Cal Poly’s four choirs in the Combined Choirs Program, has been selected for one of the greatest honors a choir can receive — an invitation to perform for the American Choral Directors (ACDA) Western Region conference! The conference will take place in Pasadena on March 4-6, 2024.
“This is a game changer for our program. Being selected to perform at a regional conference is significant, second only to being invited to perform for the national conference. Typically, choirs from conservatories or schools with graduate students are selected, which speaks to our students’ dedication to excellence and to the quality of instruction at Cal Poly.”
— Scott Glysson, director of choral activities and vocal studies
Cantabile is an advanced ensemble of 60 students that specializes in the performance of repertory for soprano and alto voices. In 2023 the group was chosen to perform in Lincoln Center after our performance for the California Music Educators Conference in 2022. For the ACDA selection process, choirs from six states provided three years' worth of audio recordings for blind review by a panel of anonymous jurors, and Cantabile was one of just four choirs chosen to perform.
The 60 Cantabile students in the Combined Choirs Program need your help covering travel costs to the conference for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform for thousands of choral directors and singers, proudly representing Cal Poly.
