The Latinx Banquet is an annual end-of-the-year celebration where students can celebrate their achievements while also celebrating their Latinx heritage on campus! The Latinx Cultural Association (LCA), Movimiento Estudiantil Xicanx De Aztlán (MEXA), Latinx Business Student Association (LBSA), Latinos in Agriculture (LIA), Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), and Cal Poly CM Casa, all came together to host the first-ever Latinx Banquet in May 2023. This year, June 2024, we will host the 2nd annual Latinx Banquet on campus!
The Latinx Banquet aims to create a platform for students at Cal Poly to celebrate their Latinx heritage by spotlighting the diversity of Latin American countries. The Latinx Banquet fosters an inclusive celebration for students on campus through music and dance performances. This year, our dinner menu will feature pupusas, a Salvadorian delicacy; tacos, a Mexican food staple; and Cuban pastries for dessert. Attendees will enjoy live music, including a Banda performance!
The first Latinx Banquet hosted guest speaker, Dr. Martha Galvan, who spoke on the importance of having inclusivity and representation on campus. This year, we will continue to highlight these values by having cultural dance performances from various clubs on campus during the dinner reception. Graduating seniors will have the opportunity to showcase their accomplishments through a presentation during dinner time and they will share which Latin country they are representing, their major, and plans they have post-graduation!
