The 25th Biennial Conference on the Biology of Marine mammals is an international conference, where students can showcase their research on marine mammals and network with professionals in the field. The Vertebrate Integrative Physiology laboratory at Cal Poly supports student research on marine mammals, and these students want to present their excellent work at this conference. We need your support to make it happen!
One of the most impactful ways for students to move forward in their scientific careers is for them to present at scientific conferences. This not only provides them with critical experience presenting their research to the scientific community, but also facilitates networking opportunities. The Biennial Conference on the Biology of Marine Mammals is an international conference attended by the biggest names in marine mammal science. Because it only takes place every other year, this opportunity comes at a critical time for these Cal Poly students looking to take the next step in their careers.
Our students will be presenting work on topics including the effects of modifying lobster traps to prevent sea otter bycatch, changes in sea otter buoyancy with age, development of breath hold in northern elephant seals, the uniqueness of pup attraction calls among female northern elephant seals, long-term trends in our local northern elephant seal population, movement of northern elephant seal pups during their first foraging migration, the thermal function of Weddell seal pelts, and acoustic detection of whale presence along the central California coast.
This year’s conference will be held November 11th - 15th in Perth, Australia!
