Cal Poly Distance Club (CPDC) is Cal Poly's official running club, and one of the biggest club sports on Cal Poly's campus that trains and competes year-round in cross country and track. Part of what makes our club so awesome is that we are able to strike a balance between competition and fun by offering many social events for our members, including camping trips, adventure runs, beach barbeques, and a formal social. Additionally, we want to provide a competitive experience for our members by providing both individual and team racing opportunities. All CPDC members receive a club T-shirt as well as access to a year-round training schedule, seasonal coaching, and competition opportunities. In order to operate as a club, we need the support of generous donors like you and greatly appreciate any donation to help us make these amazing events happen for our runners!
Our biggest club expense is for the NIRCA Cross Country National Championships, which includes the cost of airfare, car rentals, meet registration, hotels, and gas! It’s been one of our missions for the past three years to take as many of our members to Nationals as possible by subsidizing a large portion of each member’s travel expenses. This past cross country season, we were fortunate enough to be able to take 24 members to Indiana for Nationals, where we saw fantastic performances from our athletes. Members who earn their spot on the Nationals team are in for an unforgettable experience where they create friendships and memories that will last them a lifetime!
Highlights from this past year include:
— Over 70 CPDC athletes competed at the Cross Country Bronco Invitational in Santa Clara
— 24 Members competed in the Men’s and Women’s Championship and Class races at Cross Country Nationals in Indiana
— West Cuesta camping trip with over 50 members in attendance!
Our goal is to raise $5,000, which will help make competitions more accessible and affordable for our runners by covering the cost of meet registration and travel expenses, and will allow us to invest in a team tent and Distance Club gear to help our team stand out!
