The Cal Poly Physics Department provides high-quality and inclusive undergraduate-level instruction for all students taking courses taught by our faculty. We emphasize advanced laboratory experiences for students pursuing physics degrees through our learn-by-doing philosophy, authentic senior projects, and equitable opportunities for professional-level research that contribute to the creation of new knowledge through scholarship.
This year, the Cal Poly Physics Department is honored to host the Conference for Undergraduate Women and Gender Minorities in Physics on campus in January 2025!
This conference will draw attendees from across the West Coast, and we aim to showcase the best of Learn by Doing and Cal Poly while enriching our current physics cohort with notable guest speakers and renowned faculty visitors. We need your help funding student activities such as travel, meals, workshops, and networking events!
The goal of APS CU*iP is to help undergraduate women and gender minorities continue in physics by providing them with the opportunity to experience a professional conference, information about graduate school and professions in physics, and access to peers in physics of all ages with whom they can share experiences, advice, and ideas.
“This conference is important to me because I have benefited greatly from attending previous CUWiP events. These conferences have equipped me with essential skills in networking, research presentations, and understanding the diverse career paths available for undergraduate physicists. Having Cal Poly host the conference is particularly meaningful because it not only highlights our university's commitment to supporting diversity and inclusion in physics but also provides an opportunity for our campus to showcase the supportive community we’ve built for women and gender minorities in STEM. The impact of the conference is profound; it helps foster a sense of belonging for attendees, encourages students to persist in physics, and builds a strong support network that spans across various institutions. I’m thrilled that Cal Poly is playing a key role in hosting such a pivotal event that will benefit students like me.” — Olivia, 4th year Physics Student
