Every fall, the Orfalea College of Business (OCOB) Ambassadors embark on an exciting outreach trip to major cities like Seattle, New York, and Austin. This annual tradition is an opportunity for Ambassadors to connect with Cal Poly’s phenomenal alumni, tour top-tier companies that actively recruit our talent, and gain invaluable insights into thriving career markets. Through meaningful conversations and on-site visits, the Ambassadors return to campus equipped with knowledge and connections to inspire future OCOB students and pave the way for successful career pathways in these regions. We need your help to continue this amazing Learn by Doing experience for our Ambassadors!
“This trip really broadened my perspective on pursuing a career outside of California. I hadn't realized the amount of opportunities for growth and new experiences elsewhere, and I now feel much more open to exploring career paths in other states.” —Michael
The Orfalea Student Ambassadors are a dedicated and enthusiastic community chosen to represent and advocate for the Orfalea College of Business. They are committed to promoting both the college and the university to prospective students and industry leaders by providing campus tours, organizing and leading professional development programs for students, and traveling to companies as representatives of the college. The OCOB Ambassadors aim to showcase the potential of our institution, fostering long-lasting partnerships in the process. By embodying values of inclusivity and transparency, the Ambassadors offer visitors an authentic glimpse into the Orfalea College of Business experience, making it relatable to a diverse audience.
This past October, the OCOB Ambassadors went to Austin, Texas for an Industry trip to visit Dell, Cisco, and Samsung. Each visit was supported by Cal Poly Alumni, allowing Ambassadors to connect with these companies on a more personal level and envision a future career in Austin. Outside of the tours, they took every ounce of their free time to explore Austin, including eating amazing BBQ food and attending the Formula 1 Race!
At Dell, the Ambassadors met with six Sales Reps who provided incredible insights: sharing what they love about working at Dell and the Austin lifestyle. The Ambassadors also had the opportunity to visit Cisco, where they met with a panel of five employees in various positions from a Supply Chain Strategist to a Director of Product Operations, who taught them all about the different parts of Cisco’s supply chain. To end the trip, the Ambassadors visited Samsung where they had the opportunity to tour the office and learn how engineering and business work together through their manufacturing processes.
“The Ambassadors trip to Austin was such a great way to learn more about product development, design, and manufacturing from a variety of industry professionals, as well as gain insight into several industries and the transition into the workplace. The trip also bonded our group so much, making us stronger and more unified!" —Merav
