Help Cal Poly Swing Club Revive SLOx Exchange

Founded in 1998, CP Swing is a dance club at Cal Poly, SLO. We love to social dance and teach various Swing Dancing styles, including Lindy Hop, East Coast Swing, Balboa, and more! We have weekly lessons during the school year and host multiple social dances, which are open to students and community members alike. We strive to curate a positive, fun club and lesson environment where everyone feels welcome and encouraged to learn. 

This year, we’re bringing back what used to be the biggest event of the year, but hasn’t been hosted since 2020. SLOx started out as a hearts and roses themed dance to honor a couple that passed away shortly after graduating who had been heavily involved in the club. Over the years it grew into a nationally-recognized celebration of dance called a Lindy Exchange. It consists of three days of dancing, community building, and overall good times with people from various swing scenes around the state and country. This year will be the first SLOx in five years… a true 20’s Revival (that’s our theme)! 

As a club, our focus is making the joy of dancing completely accessible. In order to achieve this, almost everything we do is completely free for students. We don’t charge for our weekly lessons on Sundays and Wednesdays and provide free rides to the Madonna Inn weekly dances. We charge only for gas when we travel around the state and price merchandise and events at cost to encourage community and attendance. Because of this effort, we see our members inviting their friends to get involved not only for the dancing, but also for the community we’ve built. 

Historically, SLOx is our only fundraiser of each year. However, with late cancellations of the 2020 event, we need help getting it back on its feet. With an event of this scale on our hands, we need your help to make it a success! With three days of dancing and activities comes dance halls to reserve, food to provide, and bands to play, all of which you can help us provide!
