For more than five decades, KCPR has been weaving connections throughout Cal Poly and the greater San Luis Obispo area, nurturing both community bonds and student growth. While our staff, location, and musical landscape have transformed over the years, our identity remains firmly anchored in our motto: Where Different Matters. Throughout our past, present, and into our future, KCPR celebrates and amplifies diverse sounds, voices, and perspectives in every aspect of our programming.

For our 2025 Pledge Drive, we invite donors, alumni, staff, and students to revisit those moments when college radio cast its spell and transformed your ordinary day into something extraordinary.

KCPR thrives through student leadership, with our team members contributing to at least one of six dynamic teams: content, news, marketing, music, podcasting, and art. Each team offers students hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology to craft innovative media that resonates.

While navigating the demands of academics, jobs, and campus life, KCPR students dedicate themselves to weekly meetings, community engagement at campus and local events, and creating captivating content including live Burnt Dog Sessions, thought-provoking podcasts, and original artwork. Our passionate student writers and reporters craft articles and produce weekday newscasts that celebrate the community we cherish. Currently, our dedicated unpaid student staff of about 70 volunteers invest 6 or more hours weekly at the station. Our 10 paid student managers receive stipends covering merely 5 hours of work per week, though they typically devote upwards of 20 hours. Your contribution can help us expand paid opportunities and provide fair compensation for our team's remarkable dedication.

Beyond increasing stipends, your generosity unlocks transformative experiences for our students. Pledge Drive funds enable students to attend academic conferences, submit their work for prestigious national awards, cover music festivals, bring exciting bands to our community through concerts, and countless other enriching opportunities. This year, KCPR managers were able to attend the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) Conference and the Associated College Press (ACP) Conference. Thanks to supporters like you, our student leaders returned with invaluable insights to elevate our station's impact.

KCPR thrives on growth and innovation. Our expansion means we now feature news broadcasts in both English and Spanish at the top of every hour. We've diversified our content creation to include compelling podcasts and an engaging morning talk show. KCPR students currently produce 6 distinct podcasts available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. The hosts of Radio Party, our new on-air morning talk show, now spark community conversations every Tuesday morning. 

Because of our donors' generosity, we continue pursuing the projects that ignite our passion. Our production team has been revitalizing Club 91 (alumni, prepare to be spellbound!), utilizing station equipment to showcase the talent of local DJs. Students have extended their event coverage through summer months, all made possible by contributions like yours. The station’s growth is possible because of the generous support we receive from all of you! What we do here at KCPR matters. Who we are matters. Our alumni, parents, friends, supporters, donors, and community matter. You matter.
