Nuclear is Clean Energy (NiCE) club is a new club established in the winter of 2024 at Cal Poly! Our goal is to spread awareness and advocate for nuclear energy as a clean energy source. Through speaker events and field trips, we aim to educate Cal Poly students about nuclear energy, thereby giving them the information they need to develop well-informed opinions on this crucial topic. Climate change is a pressing issue, and it will be up to our generation to find cleaner ways of producing energy.
Our club is eager to visit UC Berkeley because it is home to a nuclear reactor that students and faculty use for research, and it is where our sister club and founding club chapter resides. While there are NiCE clubs on multiple college campuses, the Berkeley NiCE club was the first to be established.
This visit will give our members an invaluable learning experience: visiting the nuclear reactor at Berkeley will be a great opportunity for our members to learn more about nuclear reactors and understand the science behind them better. Students will be able to network with their peers and gain a deeper understanding of clean energy solutions and how nuclear power fits into the future of sustainability. Visiting our founding club will be great for community building, and members can exchange ideas and thoughts on nuclear energy and how to advocate for the topic.
Your donation will help cover transportation and lodging costs, allowing our members to participate in this exciting educational opportunity. Our goal is to send 10 members to Berkeley for an overnight trip, but with more support, we can bring even more students!
