We've reached our initial goal of $3,000! Thank you so much to all of our generous donors— we want to build off this success, so we've increased our goal to $5,000, which would allow us to support even more Anthropology and Geography students!

The Anthropology-Geography Learn By Doing Fund aids students in achieving their future career goals by supporting their learning through senior projects, conference travel, and study abroad trips. This unique opportunity is imperative for students who would not otherwise have the funding to broaden their scope of learning with hands-on experiences. Anthropology and Geography (ANGE) students can apply for funding and then put it towards gaining real world experiences that allow them to be better prepared for their life, post-graduation. Students especially value the opportunity to work closely with professors as they get to explore topics they are passionate about.
“The professors are really open to letting you bring your ideas to the table and working with you to make sure you're creating a senior project that's really meaningful to you.” — Emily Duncan ‘25
The Anthropology and Geography Learn By Doing Fund supports student applicants towards their senior project research costs, presenting research or attendance at academic conferences, community engagement or service learning activities, internship costs, international research, and study abroad experiences. These experiences set students up for success in their future career paths. Funds can be used for up to $250 for senior projects, $500 for conference travel, and $1000 for study abroad trips.
“Learn by Doing has had a profound impact on my education because I feel like it has given me the most well-rounded experience in my senior project overall, and being able to be at a location and actually implementing what we've learned in our classes has been just amazing.” — Helena Roseman ‘25
Anthropology and Geography students focus on global and environmental studies and are interested in people, culture, and the environment. We apply science and technology to address today’s most important social, global, and environmental issues, domestically and abroad. The Anthropology and Geography major also trains students in cutting-edge technologies such as geographic information systems (GIS), satellite remote sensing, GPS, and quantitative analysis. These technologies are in high demand in industry, government, and non-profit organizations. As a means of developing relevant job skills and applying Cal Poly’s Learn by Doing motto, along with a senior project, majors are also required to complete an internship or a study abroad program. Students take what they learn in the classroom and apply it in the field.
Thank you for your support of Cal Poly Anthropology and Geography students!
