Start-Up Launch Weekend is a 54-hour immersive event in San Luis Obispo, hosted by Cal Poly Entrepreneurs, where students experience the fast-paced world of launching a startup. Over the course of a weekend, participants pitch ideas, form teams, develop business concepts, and present their final pitches to a panel of judges. Guided by mentors, faculty members, and local business executives, students gain invaluable hands-on experience in entrepreneurship.
Each year, over 60 students participate in Start-Up Launch Weekend, collaborating in a fast-paced, hands-on environment designed to help them bring their ideas to life. The event has led to the creation of more than 30 successful businesses, demonstrating the real impact of this experience in launching viable startups. Participants engage in customer development, market validation, and prototyping, which are skills essential for building a successful business. They also have the opportunity to hear from co-founders and CEOs who have launched their own companies and can provide insight into the startup journey. The event takes place at the CIE Hothouse, a dynamic co-working space in downtown San Luis Obispo, fostering an environment of innovation and collaboration.
Beyond the experience itself, Start-Up Launch Weekend provides participants with networking opportunities, mentorship, and resources to bring their ideas to life. Teams also have the chance to win cash prizes to jumpstart their ventures, including $1,000 for first place, $750 for second place, and $500 for third place. With plenty of catered meals and snacks, students stay energized and ready to tackle the challenges of building a startup.
