Send the Steel Bridge Team to Regionals in Los Angeles!
Cal Poly Steel Bridge is a student-run competition team made up of undergraduate students in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. This project team blends technical knowledge with hands-on application, embodying Cal Poly’s “Learn by Doing” motto.
In the Fall, new members are introduced to drafting software such as Civil 3D and SAP2000, and trained to safely dimension and weld their own mini-bridge. Concurrently, our captains begin designing the bridge that will be used in competition.
During Winter, the team focuses on fabrication and machining, working collaboratively to produce precise members and connections for the bridge. Using mills, lathes, and CNCs, students construct a one-tenth scale steel bridge for competition. The team has advanced from the regional to the national level for the past two years.
This year, we aim to bring as many students as possible to the regional competition in Los Angeles, with hopes of qualifying for nationals once again. Beyond travel, the cost of tools and materials remains a significant factor in ensuring this experience is accessible to all members.
Thank you for any contributions that will ensure the growth and success of our team!!
