Description

Help represent Cal Poly at the national NAHB Student Competition

Every year, Cal Poly students compete in the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Student Competition at the International Builders' Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. This year, 24 students across five majors—Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, Business, and City and Regional Planning—will form two interdisciplinary teams. Working over four months, these students apply classroom learning to solve complex, real-world housing development challenges.

The Production Home team tackles a large-scale land development plan for a 24.24-acre property in Collin County, Texas. The team navigates multi-parcel land acquisition, integrates income from existing self-storage operations, and builds financial models to achieve at least an 18% Internal Rate of Return.

The Custom Home Build team focuses on designing a luxury, storm-resilient beachfront home along Florida's Gulf Coast. Facing a $1.5 million construction loan cap, the team manages site selection, market research, and construction logistics while creating a financial plan to secure necessary gap funding.

The project culminates at the International Builders' Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, where students present their final solutions to panels of industry judges. As a student competitor shared, "Participating in this competition gave me the confidence to step into the professional world, understanding that our hard work has tangible, impactful results." Sending 24 student competitors and faculty advisors to Las Vegas requires funding for travel, lodging, registration, and meals. Your crowdfunding gift directly enables these students to showcase their work and represent Cal Poly on a national stage.
