Mustang Sports Medicine Project (August 2019)

Sports medicine is a large contributor to the success of the athletics program here at Cal Poly. The emphasis placed on recovery, healing and preventative care is crucial for the success and overall health of our athletes. However, the level of care that can be provided to our athletes can be hindered by lack of access to the best care while on the road.

Purpose:

The goal of this campaign is to raise $5,000 – $10,000 during the month of August through the support of Cal Poly’s former student athletes, family and friends. We are hoping to get as many people involved as possible, a small gift can make a big difference. The Sports Medicine department is hoping to purchase NormaTec leg machines, Hypervolt ice guns, and portable STEM units that can all be used in the training room and be taken on the road while teams are traveling.

NormaTec uses cutting edge technology that works to help with injury prevention and recovery. The machine works by using compression and pulses on targeted areas of the body. The NormaTec is a staple for college athletic programs and professional teams all around the country.

Hypervolt Ice is a tool that offers a revolutionary massage experience to improve mobility and aid recovery. The use of the Hypervolt helps with relieving muscle soreness, increasing circulation and accelerating warmup and recovery. This item is not only essential at home but on the road. 

Portable STEM Intense Units help with muscle stimulation in order to aid muscle pain or soreness. STEM Intense Units can be used in all different areas on the body, having a versatile range for injury recovery. These units are small and easily able to travel with teams and can make a big difference in recovery while on the road

You can donate at any of the levels listed on the side of the page and see how your contribution will impact the program, or choose a custom amount to donate. This project is all about giving what you can and being involved in the bettering of the program for the current and future student-athletes to come.

In order to make this a competitive giving experience we are going to make a competition between teams (i.e. football, soccer, volleyball etc.).  So when you make a donation you will indicate which team you were on during your time at Poly – if applicable- and that will be counted towards your teams total. The team to have the highest donor participation will win! Last year’s winner was the football group so let’s see who will challenge the former champs this year!
